As a result of her success, she has had a number of No. 1 hits, chart-topping albums, and four records that have each sold more than two million copies. Grease kicked off her career more than any other movie, and she enjoyed playing Sandy.

Known for her high, supple, vibrato-warmed voice, Olivia Newton-John starred as Sandy in the 1978 hit movie “Grease.” She was a four-time Grammy winner.

The legendary singer Olivia Newton-John, whose image was recast from the virginal girl next door to a spandex-clad vixen during the 1970s and 1980s, died at her ranch in Southern California on Monday. She starred in “Grease,” one of the most popular movie musicals of its era, which reflects her transformation in miniature. She was 73 years old.
The death was announced by her husband, John Easterling, who did not give a specific cause in his statement, though he cited the breast cancer diagnosis she had lived with since 1992. She announced in 2017 that the cancer had returned and spread. Her foundation in her name supports cancer research, and she opened a research and wellness center in metropolitan Melbourne, Australia. Her family migrated from England to Australia when she was a child.
In her career, Newton-John achieved No. 1 hits, chart-topping albums and four records that sold more than two million copies each. It was more than anything else that made her likable and even beloved.
